Eucalyptus leucoxylon megolacarpa (Rosea)

Yellow gum, White Ironbark, Pink-flowered Yellow Gum

Small to medium native tree with clusters of pink-red flowers in late winter or spring.

Features: Reliable cream, pink or red flowers. Bird-attracting.
Applications: A feature tree in gardens, parks, landscapes and streetscapes.
Description Althought Euc. leucoxylon is available in four main sub-species, the favoured one for streetscapes, landscaping and gardens is this one - megolacarpa rosea. Similar to the Red-flowering gum native to the south-west, this eastern states variety is also known for the colour of its bloom. However, obvious points of difference include the yellow/cream/grey smooth upper bark of the megolacarpa and the different flowers (white, cream, pink or red) and leaf size, shape and habit. It is sometimes preferred to the Red-flowering gum as a more reliable source of red flowers in humid conditions.
